Garth Mowat, Senior Wildlife Biologist with the BC
Ministry of Environment, Kootenay Region will be on hand to discuss the
priorities and activities of the BC Wildlife Branch.
Presently
the Wildlife Branch is doing some interesting work monitoring grizzly
bear population trends, censusing cougars and wolves as well as
surveying elk moose and deer among other projects.
Speaker Bio:
Garth Mowat is a wildlife biologist and has lived in Nelson since 1996. Garth has a variety of experience in the conservation field. He spent 5 years working for the Yukon Fish and Wildlife Branch in Whitehorse on furbearers and birds. He also taught Wildlife Management at Yukon College and Lethbridge Community College for 3 years. Since 1996 Garth has worked on inventory and habitat management of carnivores and ungulates in many parts of western Canada. A major part of his career has been in research and Garth has published over 20 papers in scientific books and journals. He has a Master's Degree in Zoology from the University of Alberta in Edmonton and a Bachelor's Degree in Zoology from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Currently, Garth is Senior Wildlife Biologist for the BC government in the Kootenay Region of southeast BC. He lives and works in Nelson.
